This blog records my travels in the Art Project 2012 where I show what I've been creating every single day of 2012.

Day 29 - Art Project 2012
A page from my journal... still in progress. This is using techniques from the Doodles Unleashed class, week 2.

Day 28 - Art Project 2012
Artist Trading Cards created for our local trade today. Acrylic paint mono-printed papers used for the backgrounds and for the die cut hearts. I'm not thrilled with these... the idea in my head did not transfer to paper. Ah well.

Day 27 - Art Project 2012
A few more mixed media house backgrounds. The blue house is acrylic paint monoprinting on black chipboard. Black and white house is security envelope interiors. Much more to come on these. These are both 4 inches x 6 inches.

Day 26 - Art Project 2012
Beginnings of Mixed Media Houses for a collaborative art project with a local group of artists. These were cut from one of the backgrounds I've worked on the past week or so, and are 3 1/2 or 4 inches x 6 inches. A bit more embellishment will occur.

Day 23 - Art Project 2012
I attended a wonderful workshop taught by Debi McManus-Plett... and this is what I brought home. I still have a bit of work, adding some spacers, doing a bit of coloring in a few spots, some "sewing" and adding a few embellishments.
This is a shot from the first few hours of class, laying out the pattern and figuring out color and texture. Thank goodness we had a pattern template to follow, is all I'll say. :)

Day 22 - Art Project 2012
Start of a winter spread in my garden themed journal - Work in Progress.
I'm following along with Tracie Lyn Huskamp as she creates a Garden Journal this year... check out her blog. She's doing some tutorials on it throughout this year.
I started with an old field journal from the 1940's - mostly unused so lot's of clear pages (I snagged this one in a free book box at a book sale), adding Absorbant Ground to the pages. I did a light blue wash of watercolor, dotting some away with paper towels, and then stamped the corners with a snow flake stamp in pale blue. This picture doesn't show it well at all.
I sprayed this page with watercolor (for another project) and used the paint from the snowflakes I'd used as a mask to add shapes to the page (top picture).

Day 21 - Art Project 2012
Another Doodles Unleashed Intuitive watercolor - WIP. I like this one a bit better. We'll see what develops. :)

Day 20 - Art Project 2012
Intuitive watercolor 'painting' from Doodles Unleashed - Strathmore workshop. I was most unhappy with it, and whatever I did made it worse... so I cut it into ATC backgrounds. I'll add more doodling to them eventually.

Day 19 - Art Project 2012
More on the Doodles Unleashed spread. I've been making "marks" and have found trying to doodle with pens on top of oil pastels is quite a challenge! I don't think I'll use them again as an underneath layer in a journal.
My Tombo markers seems to work a bit (wiping them off immediately) and I have destroyed a white Sharpie paint pen in the process of playing.
We'll see what develops although I'm going to start the second week project for the class now, and come back to this while I'm waiting for things to dry. Maybe...

Day 18 - Art Project 2012
Still working on the Doodles Unleashed project and I'm not fond of where it's going. "Doodling" with paint brushes is not something I've mastered. But hey, it's just a start. We shall keep on...
Tuesday, January 17, 2012
Day 17 - Art Project 2012
Trying out the Doodles Unleashed techniques (Strathmore online class taught by Traci Bautista). I've used various objects as stencils, and used the ink from them to print on a second page. This is the start... we'll see how it evolves. :)

Day 16 - Art Project 2012
More work on the torn paper backgrounds... I added a variety of stamped images in a few colors and some paint marks in white. A bit more to do, and then you'll see what I'm planning to make from them. :)

Saturday, January 14, 2012
Day 14 - Art Project 2012
Spread in my blue journal... started with left over paint from another project. I have more doodling to do.
Friday, January 13, 2012
Day 13 - Art Project 2012
Altered Book - working on my zentangle page, adding some doodles and color. Not quite sure how this will end... :)

Day 7 - Art Project 2012
Still working on this mixed media canvas. I've worked on dying lace to use as tree branches... we'll see if it works as I envision.

Day 6 - Art Project 2012
Happy Birthday to my sister Jane!
These journal page backgrounds were made using paint left over from the various canvases I'm working on this week. Much more to come.

Day 5 - Art Project 2012

Day 1 - Art Project 2012
Happy New Year, Everyone!
I'm starting another year of creating some type of art every single day, This blog will document my work. I'm still working out whether I'll post every day, or once a week, but for now I'll continue in the format I used last year.. a post a day.
For Day 1 - January 1 2012
Mixed Media Canvas - 8 inches x 8inches x 2 inches. Abstract Landscape using acrylic paints over textured base. This technique was one I learned from Tracie Lyn Huskamp in 2010, and I've added my own twists. This particular piece is being submitted tomorrow in the Allied Arts of Whatcom County Members Show, and will be on display from January 6 through January 28th.
